Last week was , National Baby Loss Awareness Week , a time of reflection and commemoration for all those infants so briefly experienced but forever remembered . It is also an opportunity for raising awareness of these devasting losses and encouraging change in how we view such tragedies and support parents and extended families in this difficult time.
We held our first Infant Loss memorial Service on Sunday 12th October .
It was an intimate and dignified memorial service undertaken in partnership with the CWS Funeral Services , with words of comfort spoken by the Rev Brian Casey, and which culminated in the dedication of a decorative slate memorial tablet, now situated in the Garden of Reflection to the rear of the New Chapel where colourful ribbons placed there by attendees ,wafted quietly between the branches of the adjacent evergreen tree.
My heartfelt thanks go to all those who attended and who participated in this very special commemorative service.
The service was both emotional and uplifting and we were privileged to also have attend, the CEO and family of Baby Loss Retreat, a charitable organisation who provide access to a variety of counselling opportunities including trauma therapy, child music counselling and indeed at two Scottish locations in Fife and Castle Douglas, a retreat of quiet and calm for bereft parents.
Julie and Bryan Morrison, the founders of this special charity were on hand to lend additional support and first-hand qualified information on the types of services available to parents in such difficult times.
